Musical Improv Toolbox
Stop surviving the song and start conducting the scene with The Complete Score: Musical Improv Toolbox, a high-energy intensive designed for experienced players ready to trade "rhyme-panic" for theatrical magic.
This session cracks open the professional toolkit to help you build improvised songs that look, sound, and feel like the real deal. You’ll master the art of the big build by crafting memorable choruses with satisfying structural payoffs, while simultaneously learning to use the stage to create cinematic, Broadway-ready pictures. We’ll dive deep into character-first vocals - teaching you to sing from the soul of your character rather than just the top of your lungs - and explore the stylistic keys to any musical kingdom, from ballads to Sondheim-esque patter.

About Steffen
At some point as a child, Steffen decided he wanted to make music, and he just never stopped. He studied audiovisual media and film music in Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg, where he also took to the stage for the first time with the improvisational theater group Kanonenfutter. As an improv musician and coach, his career has since taken him from live shows to workshops and courses, and on to international festivals. Steffen is in his element wherever stories and music come together: when he’s not on stage or in a workshop, he writes music for video games (Anno 1800) or film and television (Habibi Baba Boom, Erlebnis Erde). He currently teaches improvised singing and musical theater at Die Affirmative Improv School in Mainz and Frankfurt, and developed the musical format “Glam!” with the Affirmative Ensemble.
