About the Impro Fest Bielefeld
A festival for improvised theatre in Bielefeld at the Tor6 Theatre House - with international artists, workshops and a diverse show program of the highest standard - that is the Impro Fest Bielefeld.
For four days each November, Bielefeld becomes the center of spontaneous theatre - every evening unique theatre evenings are created that inspire and touch.
The improvisational theatre scene gathers for collaborative work and celebration – over 100 improv enthusiasts travel from all over Germany and Europe to experience workshops and shows led by international teachers. At Tor 6, guests from the USA, UK, India, Peru, France, Belgium, Slovenia, Poland, Israel, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria, among others, have already improvised together on stage.
In November 2026, the Bielefeld Improv Festival will enter its 6th year – conceived in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic as IFO – meaning Improv Festival Online – we have long since become an offline event and delight the Bielefeld audience year after year. This year again, we will have guests from six countries across three continents.
What exactly is improvisational theatre? This art form is just as diverse as any other form of theatre – the difference being that all scenes, all characters, all stories are created in the moment. The audience is welcome to be inspired or simply enjoy the shows, because our professional artists will deliver out-of-this-world performances. We guarantee it!
The team
We are actors, workshop leaders and directors and since the beginning of March 2020 we are above all: festival organizers. We are theater educators, stand-up artists, scientists, media makers, special needs teachers and we are all connected by improvisational theater.
We organize this festival on a voluntary basis.
